Membership (PBCTP / MBCTP / FBCTP) is a mark of clinical maturity, not just academic attainment. All therapeutic professionals committed to our Principles are invited to join - your experience in the room is what counts most. No essays. No politics. Just experience.
Below are the membership tiers and pathways. All routes require the same core standards; they differ only in how prior learning and experience are evidenced. All pathways require the BCTP Principles Declaration - your commitment to our eight core Principles.

Student Member
For students enrolled on courses leading to Practitioner Membership
Requirements
• Current enrolment in Level 6–8 therapy course
• BCTP Principles Declaration

Processing: Added to student register immediately

Member (MBCTP)
For qualified professionals (Level 6–8) - full BCTP voting rights
Requirements
• Recognised diploma/degree certificate (Level 6–8)
• Supervisor endorsement (template provided)
• BCTP Principles Declaration (online)

Senior Member (MBCTP)
For therapeutic professionals with recognised qualifications (Level 6–8 diplomas, BACP/UKCP-accredited courses, etc.)
Requirements
• 3+ years post-qualification practice
• Recognised diploma/degree certificate
• 300+ client hours in each of the last 2 years (600+ total)
• Client hours log (template provided)
• Supervisor endorsement
• BCTP Principles Declaration
Steps
Processing: Awarded within 14 days
Added to BCTP Register
Fee: £150 annual membership
Independent Practitioner route (MBCTP)
For professionals trained outside formal or BACP/UKCP-accredited routes
Requirements
• 3+ years post-qualification practice
• 300+ client hours in each of the last 2 years (600+ total)
• Client hours log (template provided)
• 2000-word anonymised case reflection
• CPD log (last 2 years)
• Supervisor endorsement
• BCTP Principles Declaration

Fee: £180 one-off + £150 annual fee
Legacy Fast-Track (MBCTP) - Founding Offer
For experienced professionals with 5+ years practice (closes 31 Dec 2027) - suited to accredited therapists

• 5+ years post-qualification practice
• BACP/UKCP accredited (current or historic)
• Recognised diploma/degree certificate
• No client hours log required - just proof of BACP/UKCP accreditation
• Supervisor endorsement
• BCTP Principles Declaration
• £100 first year membership (save £50)

Fee: £150 annual membership
Fellowship (FBCTP)
For seasoned professionals with exceptional clinical maturity OR contribution to the field
Requirements
• 8+ years post-qualification
• Recognised diploma/degree certificate
• 400+ client hours in each of the last 5 years (2,000+ total) OR exceptional contribution
• Client hours log (template provided)
• Supervisor endorsement
• BCTP Principles Declaration
