The British Council for Therapeutic Professionals (BCTP) (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you apply for membership, become a member, and/or choose to be listed in our public membership directory.

When you apply for membership and/or agree to be listed in our public directory, we may collect and process the following personal data:
• Identity Data: full name, professional title, qualifications
• Contact Data: business email address, telephone number, business address
• Profile Data: photograph (if voluntarily uploaded), areas of expertise, professional biography, website URL, social media profiles
• Membership Data: membership category, joining date, membership status
We do not collect any Special Category (sensitive) personal data about you (such as health, race, religion, political opinions, etc.).
We collect this data directly from you when you:
• Complete our membership application form
• Update your profile in the members’ area
• Choose to make your profile visible in the public directory.

To process and manage your membership — Performance of a contract with you
To include your details in the public BCTP membership directory — Your explicit consent (withdrawable at any time)
To contact you regarding membership renewals, events, or important updates — Legitimate interests (administration of the association)
The public directory is the only place where your data is made publicly visible. You control visibility and can withdraw consent at any time.
By opting for public visibility, you consent to selected data being published on www.bctp.co.uk for potential clients and the public to find qualified members. You may withdraw consent at any time via your account or by emailing admin@bctp.co.uk — we will remove your details within 7 working days.
We implement robust security measures to prevent unauthorised access, loss, or misuse of your data. Access is restricted to authorised personnel only.
We retain your data only as long as you are an active member and for up to 12 months after membership ends (or sooner if you request deletion). Data is then securely deleted or anonymised.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. We share only with:
• Our website hosting provider (under strict data processor agreement)
• Regulatory authorities if required by law.
Under UK data protection law, you have rights including access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, portability, and withdrawal of consent. To exercise these, email admin@bctp.co.uk. You may also complain to the ICO (www.ico.org.uk).
